Title:
Positional Asphyxia Syndrome (PAS). A well-known but underestimated problem
Abstract:
Positional Asphyxia Syndrome (PAS) usually occurs as a result of a police restraint measure. The medical contexts are only partially known and the triggering causes are not always recognized. A comprehensive and transparent evaluation and processing of such incidents is necessary, because the death of a close relative is extremely stressful for the bereaved and the operation can also have psychological consequences for the police officers involved. PAS has also recently caused discussion in Germany, but it has been known nationally and internationally since the 1990s.The article shows how it can be recognized and prevented in everyday police work and what training and further training measures are necessary.
